Behind every good hotel are people. For us, it's an entire family: the Tschohls. We've been your hosts at Hotel Montafoner Hof since 1987. Christoph, Stefan, and Gertrud opened the hotel back then, and today the next generations have long since grown into it. Four of them now live and work under one roof.
What defines us? We're true Montafoners, deeply rooted in our homeland. We love music, hunting, cooking, and enjoying life – preferably together with you. There's no mask that falls with us. We're simply who we are: warm, straightforward, and always up for a chat. Get to know us.

A family story with over 500 years of history.
Our story doesn’t begin in 1987, but much earlier – right across the street, at Gasthof Löwen. As early as 1500, muleteers and carters found lodging, wine, and a warm meal here. Where Hotel Montafoner Hof stands today, fruit trees once grew and a few animals stood in the barn. Rooted and branching like the chestnut trees in the former beer garden of the Löwen, we too are connected to our homeland. Over generations, it has become what you experience with us today.
The origin in town
Gasthof Löwen becomes an inn for muleteers (goods transporters of the time) and carters in Tschagguns. Where the hotel stands today: orchards and small livestock farming.
The next generation
Wilma and Gottlieb Bitschnau marry and continue running the Löwen as an inn with rooms.
From Bitschnau to Tschohl
Their daughter Christl marries Armin Tschohl and takes over Gasthof Löwen from her parents.
Hotel Montafoner Hof opens
Brothers Christoph and Stefan open Hotel Montafoner Hof across the street together with Gertrud.

Since day one
Our owners and hotel managers
They opened Hotel Montafoner Hof in 1987 and continue to run it to this day: Brothers Christoph and Stefan share the host role with Gertrud, Stefan’s wife. Christoph is a passionate hunter and ensures that game from our own hunt makes it onto the plates. Stefan reaches for the hunting rifle just as readily as for the guitar – traditional music is in his blood. And Gertrud is not only the heart and soul of the house, but also our sommelier, who knows every drop in our wine cellar.
From one generation to the next
Experience meets fresh energy
Grandma Christl has always been the one holding everything together. She took over the Löwen from her parents and laid the foundation for everything that defines Hotel Montafoner Hof today. Her grandchildren are already hard at work: Junior bosses Seraphin and Felix, sons of Stefan and Gertrud, are leading the business into the future. Felix shares his father’s passion for music and hunting. At Seraphin’s side is Angelika with their two little ones, Franz and Kurt. The next generation is already growing up.
From the hotel to the mountain lodges
We’re a well-coordinated team
At Hotel Montafoner Hof as in private life. While Christoph works hard as host and hunter at the hotel, his partner Tina takes care of our independent mountain lodges and Aktivcamping Montafon. She knows how to make guests’ temporary home in the middle of nature truly cozy – from the chalet at the forest edge to the vacation home right on the ski slope to the pitch with mountain views.

Moments that connect us
This picture shows what moves our family: Stefan on the guitar, Christoph with a fine drop from our wine cellar, Grandma Christl with a coffee, and Amrei, Stefan and Christoph’s sister, on the harp. Music and enjoyment go together for us, whether at Sunday’s Schmankerlrunde, at the Löwen, or during a spontaneous serenade by the fireplace. Encounters that are close to our hearts.

Häufig gestellte Fragen
Den Montafoner Hof führt die Familie Tschohl in mehreren Generationen: die Juniorchefs Seraphin und Felix gehören zur nächsten Generation – mit Angelika und den Urenkeln Franz und Kurt wächst bereits die vierte Generation heran. Seniorchefin Christl, ihre Söhne Stefan und Christoph, Stefans Frau Gertrud sowie Christophs Partnerin Tina stehen den Junioren noch tatkräftig zur Seite.
Der Gasthof Löwen gegenüber ist der Ursprung der Familie: Schon um 1500 war er Herberge in Tschagguns. Seniorchefin Christl übernahm ihn 1962 mit ihrem Mann Armin Tschohl von ihren Eltern, der Familie Bitschnau. 1987 eröffnete die Familie dann gleich gegenüber den Montafoner Hof. Hotel und Löwen gehören bis heute zusammen.
Die Juniorchefs sind Seraphin und Felix, die Söhne von Stefan und Gertrud. Beide sind bereits fest im Betrieb verankert und führen den Montafoner Hof Schritt für Schritt in die Zukunft.
Ja, und das ist uns wichtig. Sie begegnen uns an der Rezeption, im Restaurant, bei der Schmankerlrunde am Sonntag oder auf einer Skirunde mit unseren Juniorchefs. Als Gastgeberfamilie sind wir keine anonyme Verwaltung, sondern jeden Tag mittendrin im Hotelgeschehen.
Der Montafoner Hof ist seit der Eröffnung 1987 durchgehend in Familienbesitz und wird von der Familie Tschohl selbst geführt – nicht von einer Kette oder einem externen Management. Entscheidungen treffen wir gemeinsam im eigenen Haus und viele unserer Mitarbeitenden sind seit Jahren Teil unseres Teams.
